Exploring the Five Big Ideas
Effective training is paramount to teacher success. Research shows that teachers learn best with hands-on training supported by peer interaction and local coaches.

VoyagerU's Reading Academy is a comprehensive introduction to science-based reading research, with an emphasis on the five essential components of reading. Through self-directed online learning, face-to-face study groups and classroom practice activities teachers develop knowledge and skills in the 5 Big Ideas:

1. Phonemic Awareness
Recognize that spoken language is made up of a series of individual sounds.
2. Phonics
See the relationships between letters and sounds, and to recognize words.
3. Fluency
Recognize words quickly and accurately, as well as read aloud with expression.
4. Vocabulary Development
Learn and use words effectively.
5. Comprehension
Understand, remember, and communicate what he or she reads.

Dyslexia Module
The Reading Academy also integrates a Dyslexia Module that explains how to identify a student with dyslexia, assess their individual needs, and then apply models of good instruction.

I am quite impressed with all the updates of the New York State Reading Academy. I have been through the Academy myself from the beginning about three years ago and I have to say that this company does an immaculate job of taking suggestions from users and putting them into practice. It is easy to use and makes sense how it is designed in a very logical sequence.
