Effective Measurement Tools

Passport Reading Journeys and Passport Reading Journeys III include powerful assessment tools for student placement and progress monitoring. Assessment results are entered into VPORT®, Voyager's data management system, for easy access by teachers, principals, and administrators.

Passport Reading Journeys Beginnings - II Passport Reading Journeys III

Those measures include:

   Reading Benchmarks
   VIP Benchmarks
   Comprehension and Vocabulary Assessments
   SOLO Progress Reports

Reading Benchmarks

The Reading Benchmarks, powered by The Lexile Framework® for Reading, are administered three times during the year. Results determine each student's Lexile reading level and help teachers and librarians recommend appropriate text.

Reading Benchmark assessment features:

Maze and multiple choice format questions
Available for online or pencil paper administration
Simple to administer-no extensive or specialized preparation is needed

VIP Assessment

Vital Indicators of Progress (VIP) is an effective assessment that quickly and reliably evaluates students' reading progress. The VIP measure Reading Connected Text (RCT) is individually administered, and measures the amount of grade level text the student can read in one minute.

RCT is administered three times per year during benchmark periods. Progress monitoring using RCT can occur between benchmarks.

Comprehension & Vocabulary Assessment

Comprehension and vocabulary assessments occur every two weeks at the end of each Expedition. These criterion-referenced assessments help the teacher determine the student's ability with key reading skills:

Measure comprehension and vocabulary learned in the current Expedition
   Take about 20 minutes
   Administered whole-group
High-stakes format for additional test-taking practice

SOLO Progress Report

When students access SOLO (Strategic Online Learning Opportunities), they make choices and select answers as they progress through reading passages. SOLO captures this information and generates reports which teachers access in the VPORT data management system. Reports include the student's Word Bank, reading speed, successful first attempts, and test results for each SOLO session.

We started Passport Reading Journeys late in the school year and still made significant Lexile gains; we are really excited about that. We are thrilled with the program. The training and support from Voyager has been there the whole time and is phenomenal, and that is why we have had the results we've had with our students.
