Oxford City Schools Superintendent and Special Education Coordinator Honored with Voyager Founder’s Award

Dallas, TX., August 21, 2008 - Oxford City Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Goodwin was presented with the Voyager Founder’s Award on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, during a luncheon held in his honor. Special Education Coordinator, Khristie Goodwin was also an award recipient, but was unable to attend the event.

The Voyager Founder's Award is given to educators who, through the implementation of Voyager programs in their districts, demonstrate leadership in winning the

battle to achieve unprecedented, measurable gains in student achievement .

Oxford City Public Schools began using the Voyager Universal Literacy System®, a core reading program for kindergarten through third grade during the 2004-2005 school year. Due to the program’s success, the district added Voyager Passport™ (K-5 reading intervention), Passport Reading Journeys™ (secondary reading intervention), Vmath® and VmathLive™ (3-8 math intervention).

The Founder’s Award is given in honor of Voyager Co-founder and Former Vice-Chairman Admiral Thomas B. Hayward, U.S. Navy (ret.). One of the nation’s true heroes and patriots, Admiral Hayward was the driving force behind Voyager’s growth as a mission-driven company dedicated to making a difference in reading for millions of children. Admiral Hayward remains the guardian of Voyager’s commitment to quality educational programs and services that deliver unprecedented results. It is in his honor and in recognition of his efforts that the Voyager Founder’s Award is presented to educators responsible for initiating change and increasing student achievement.

Admiral Hayward presented the plaque to Dr. Goodwin with help from Ron Klausner, president of Voyager Expanded Learning; Kim Cagle, regional vice president of implementation services, Southeast; and Connie Davidson, director of regional implementation services. The award included a donation of $2,000 to the district.

“Based on the results realized in Oxford, it is obvious that both Dr. and Ms. Goodwin are committed to making sure students in the district reach reading and math proficiency,” said Klausner. “They continuously demonstrate the qualities of a Voyager Founder’s Award recipient.”
